Fernando de Noronha is simply one of the most beautiful, well-preserved and exclusive beaches in Brazil, and unfortunately also one of the most expensive. Due to its limit of a thousand visitors per day, with a preservation fee and the long distance from the mainland, traveling to Noronha requires more money than usual, but there is no doubt that it is very worth it!
But make no mistake: even if you’re not rolling in cash, you should consider this island as one of your next destinations. Despite being visited by many of the rich and famous, the greatest luxury on this island will certainly always be nature, and it is available for all budgets.
Whether spending a lot or a little, see in this post all the tips to make the most of Fernando de Noronha.
Five reasons for you to visit Fernando de Noronha
- The place is not just an island, but an archipelago composed of 21 islands, with an area of 26km²;
- It is considered a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO due to its importance for marine life: Noronha has the highest concentration of tropical birds in the entire Atlantic Ocean, in addition to being a natural nursery for hundreds of marine species of all kinds;
- Considered the best place for diving in Brazil and one of the best in the world, with a visibility of up to 50 meters underwater;
The limit of daily tourists and total control of those who live on the island make Fernando de Noronha a city with virtually no social problems and excellent infrastructure; - Despite the preservation and entrance fees for the ecological park, Fernando de Noronha can be visited with a lower budget if you take advantage of airfare promotions and stay in lower cost hotels or inns.
How to get to Fernando de Noronha
The only way available on the market to reach Fernando de Noronha is by air, with flights leaving only from Recife (several daily flights) and Natal (with only 2 flights per week). Tourists whose departure point is another will have to make a stopover at these airports. Once there is a guesthouse on the island, you must pay the Environmental Protection Fee charged by the government and obligatory for all visitors.
The amount varies according to the number of days you will stay on the island, starting at R$73.52 per day and having progressive discounts until the 11th day of stay. After that, prices start to increase progressively, reaching more than R$5,000 for a 30-day stay.
In addition, it is also necessary to purchase a ticket to visit areas within the marine national park of Fernando de Noronha, where most of the main attractions of Noronha are located. This fee is R$106 for Brazilians and R$212 for foreigners, and is valid for 10 days. Both the ticket and the Environmental Protection Fee can be paid in advance online.
But pay attention in the case of the Fee, as payment can only be made by bank slip, which generally takes about three days to be processed. Free of fees, the tip is to leave the airport and take a taxi straight to the hotel, and then run to the nearest beach. Thus, you make the most of the pre-established time that you can stay in this paradise.
When to go to Noronha?
As it is a true paradise in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, all 365 days of the year have all the potential in the world to provide tourists with an incredible trip and wonderful views. Anyway, it can always be better if we are looking for a specific climate or activity.
Thinking about the weather, there’s just one more important thing you need to know: from August to February, the island has its dry season, almost without rain and generally the favorite of tourists. From March to July, however, is when the rainy season occurs, with almost daily precipitation – although most of the time on these days the weather is clear.
For surf lovers, the best period is from December to March. August and September are the best months to enjoy the beach, with very few waves and no rain. For those who come looking for parties and ballads, certainly the end of the year, including the very popular New Year’s Eve in Noronha, is the best.
For those who enjoy diving, it is simply a perfect place.
What to do in Fernando de Noronha?
Conceicao Beach
This beach is the most beloved and popular in Noronha. This is where people meet to spend the afternoon, enjoy the sun, in addition to being very close to Vila dos Remédios, a place with shops and infrastructure. It has a very nice bar called Duda Rei, calm sea and rental of umbrellas and chairs for a reasonable price considering that we are in Fernando de Noronha.
Praia do Cachorro
This small beach, in addition to being very charming and cozy, is the closest to Vila dos Remédios, and is quite frequented by those who stay or live in the region. It’s a great place to spend a day there, especially if you’re with the family, as it has food and drink stalls that are simple, but quite complete. But beware: this beach is only a tourist spot when the tide is low, as when the tide is high the sand is taken over by rocks and quite strong waves.
Praia do Meio
It is “in the middle” of Cachorro and Conceição beaches. It is quite a large beach, and mostly empty. In the left corner of the beach is a very chic and trendy bar, frequented by artists and celebrities as it is one of the most expensive in the region.
Sancho beach
All of Baía do Sancho has a splendorous and radiant beauty, and even offers the possibility of being contemplated from above, from the Mirante do Sancho. This is, without a doubt, the ideal and most popular place to take the perfect photo of Fernando de Noronha. It is highly recommended that you go down to the beach and, if possible, snorkel or dive a bit among the fish, to feel the super positive energy of the marine life that surrounds the entire island.
Atalaia Beach
This beach is beyond special! Only 96 people can enter it per day to dive for a maximum of 30 minutes. To get there, only by appointment and using a 45-minute trail. There are 6 groups per day, with 16 participants in each group. As you can imagine, the competition is pretty big, so it’s worth calling and booking early if you’re planning on going to the island.
Diving with Turtles
At Praia do Sudeste, you can swim with sea turtles. There are divers who provide guide services available at PIC Sancho, the same location as the lookout point. There you can get in touch for a professional tour, but if you want to try your luck, just go to the right corner of the beach and see if you can get information from someone there who can guide you on this adventure.
Cacimba do Padre beach
This is an important beach in Fernando de Noronha for several reasons: in times of high waves, it is the main venue for surfing championships and is full of tourists and locals practicing the sport; it has a privileged view of two large and well-known stones, called Dois Irmãos; it is a must for anyone going to Baía dos Porcos, as the trail there starts on this beach; in addition to being an amazing beach for diving and snorkeling – also more accessible than Baía dos Porcos.
Bay of Pigs
This natural wonder is located within the territory of the national marine park, therefore it requires you to purchase a ticket. To get to this beach, the path is more difficult, being necessary to use a trail from Cacimba do Padre. Baía dos Porcos is one of the best places in the world for snorkeling and surface diving, because it has completely transparent waters and a rich marine life.
Boldró beach
It is very similar to Praia da Conceição because it is a similar landform and on the opposite side of it. But with some differentials: it is quieter and less popular than Praia da Conceição, it has less infrastructure, but a natural pool that compensates for the lack of food and drink services.
Sunset at Boldró Fort
This disabled fort, of which only the ruins remain, is the best place to watch Fernando de Noronha’s sunset show. With Dois Irmãos making up the scenery, it seems that the place was designed by nature especially to serve as a point of contemplation of the setting sun. Just be careful with something: Vila do Boldró does not give access to the fort. You need to walk there from Vila da Basinha.
TAMAR Project Lectures
For those who don’t know, the TAMAR Project is one of the most successful marine conservation programs in the world. Researchers and professors linked to the project give daily lectures at ICMBio. The Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation, in turn, is an agency linked to the Ministry of the Environment and is in charge of carrying out the maintenance and application of environmental preservation measures in Noronha. The place is in Vila Boldró and the lectures are at night. Be sure to go if you are there at that time.

Bars and Restaurants close by
The Island is full of ultra refined and luxurious options, with the best of haute cuisine from all regions of the world. However, as expected, prices are higher than usual, like everything else in Fernando de Noronha. Here are some of the best rated places in the archipelago:
Located in Vila dos Remédios, Restaurante do Vale is a delicious and sophisticated option that offers well-served dishes and great value for money. It specializes in seafood and Brazilian cuisine, but also has vegan and vegetarian options.
A much more exclusive and luxurious option, albeit in a rustic style, is Mesa da Ana, in Vila do Trinta. With a very intimate treatment, the high prices make up for the pleasure of a unique gastronomic experience.
Xica da Silva is a great option for a family dinner, with great service, careful Brazilian food and that touch of home cooking that no one doesn’t like. Located in Vila Floresta Nova.
Other valuable tips
To get around Fernando de Noronha, it is best to use taxis. However, this is also the most expensive option, and getting around the city by bus or on foot can be less difficult than you might think. Therefore, if you are looking to save money, always find out about the available bus options.
Another tip to spend less is to go during the low season, which boils down to the period from April to June or between October and the beginning of December.
Keep an eye on the environmental fee: children up to 4 years old do not pay and there are some special conditions that also incur the exemption.
